My mom is an artist.
She loves to paint! Some days she spends HOURS down in her art room. Its her way to relax.
She'd try to get us excited about it, and soon Trevor and Dylan were down there painting with her! Trevor sold a couple paintings, too.
I don't know what it was, but over the years my desire to paint vanished- if it was ever there at all. I didn't notice it at first. I'd still paint a little.
But as soon as I started I'd get so mad! My teeth would begin to clench, and I'd snap at anyone.
I'd try to finish the painting I had started, but I would just be so grumpy.
So, slowly I just stopped painting.
Mom would try to persuade me to do it. But I was stubborn.
I still am.
Very rarely will you see me pick up a paintbrush and actually create. And if you do, you won't want to be around me!
So I began to think that I wasn't artistic. How could I be? I didn't paint.
But Mom tried to tell me that painting isn't the only artistic thing there is. She says that art can be colouring, drawing, making music, writing, painting, even building things!
I was reluctant at first, but soon I believed her. It made sense. But I still doubted.

My Lion

I loved to draw girls. I drew girls in long, pretty dresses- medieval dresses that I wished I could wear. I made their hair all delicate and pretty.
But then I would get mad that their faces weren't right!
So I stopped drawing girls.
About six months ago I began to start doodling again. I started drawing my girls, and they had improved slightly!
Then Mom started teaching the homeschooler's art. I suppose that just all that talk about art made me want to do something again. I felt like I should be doing some kind of art.
Then I saw Tia's drawing of a lion. It didn't look too hard.
Thinking more about majestic lions, they soon became my favourite animal. Then I really wanted to draw a lion.
So I took a step-by-step drawing tutorial and loved it! It was hard, and I sure needed an eraser, but with more practice my lions became better and better.
Soon I was doing drawing tutorials almost every day, trying to get better, trying to draw things at first I had thought was impossible to draw.
And today I love drawing! I'm not as good at it without step-by-step instructions, though. :)

Today I decided to make a list of all the movie character's I'd like to draw.

My Elephant

It is hard and I couldn't do it without an eraser but its nice to know its possible... I'm glad that I can be artistic without picking up a paintbrush.

I now know that what Mom said is true; art is not just painting. It can be music, writing, building things, clay, cooking/baking, all kinds of things!



Please don't give up on your artistic streak, even if you think you don't have one! I believe that God has created all of us to be artistic. And believe me, if you hate painting you can still do something else!
I hope that you will try something that you thought at first would be too hard. Because you might just be able to do it. :)
